Remember to pause when reading

When reading, remember to pause. Pausing add drama, emotion, emphasis, power to your speech. If you use your pauses well, your audience will be captivated.

But the question is for how long should I pause?

Old-fashioned teachers used to tell their students to pause and count one at a comma, two at a semi-colon, three at a colon and four at a full stop. It might sound rather odd if you tried doing this, but it may help you to undertstand how to use punctuation marks.

There are no hard and fast rules about it, it is more of a personal choice!

However, do concentrate when reading and watch out for pauses...
