ENGLISH VOWEL SOUNDS

As you know, English has the same number of vowels as Spanish: five (a,e,i,o,u). But, while in Spanish there is only one pronunciation for each vowel, in English there are 12 different sounds for those 5 vowels (look at the chart above).

PRONUNCIATION DICTIONARIES

English pronunciation is not always predictable from the spelling forms that you see. Words that look the same might have very different pronunciations. That is why most online dictionaries have the British and American pronunciation if they differ. You should always check the pronunciation of new words.
